Drive growth in the untapped rural markets: Despite difficulties brought on by the pandemic, HUL, the largest fast-moving consumer products company, demonstrated strong development during the Covid-19 period and generated a volume rise of nearly 9% in Q1 of FY22. The corporation claims that rural markets were largely responsible for the industry's rise. All three of the company's divisions—home care, beauty and personal care, and food and beverage saw double-digit growth, some of it even from a higher base. The rural market is mostly untapped and has enormous growth potential. FMCG companies are now able to directly target rural consumers due to the surge in e-commerce usage. HUL is tapping into the needs of rural India through the use of data and insights. The company is predicting its next wave of growth from the rural markets.

It is the fourth largest sector and is projected to grow at the rate of 10-12%. However, this industry is also significantly affected by changes in the macroeconomic factors of the country. The high inflation rate in 2022 has affected the FMCG industry in a negative way. The high inflation rate is still persistent across global economies. Due to high inflation the input costs of the products are increasing which in case is increasing the prices of the end products for the consumers. FMCG companies are raising the prices of the products or reducing the size of their packages in order to deal with inflation. The increase in prices has also affected the consumer buying as the volume of purchase is decreasing. According to HUL, the volumes of goods sold reduced significantly when the inflation was at its peak during June 2022. The volumes sold witnessed drop in both the rural and urban markets. The price is expected to remain high in the upcoming months. HUL is adopting a mixed pricing strategy to deal with the drop in volumes.
