Detailed SWOT Analysis of SSE Plc
Strength

Creating value through developing, operating and owning energy-related assets and businesses: Spread across the UK and Ireland, SSE Plc is involved in the end-to-end value chain of the provision of energy-related services, hence being a builder, operator and owner of the businesses as well as assets. The business networks can be categorized into three types, namely wholesale, networks and retail. Considering the pragmatic approach adopted by the company regarding asset ownership, SSE recycles capital upon the probability of occurrence of value-creating opportunities. Also, the company has a strong history of developing and operating energy related assets including their construction, handling expertise, maintenance and customer service. Using these assets, SSE has created value for its stakeholders through fair renumeration and significant contribution to the UK and Irish economies.
2. Core, low-carbon businesses driving profitability and growth: The vast and unique portfolio of world-class low-carbon assets owned by SSE, accounts for the lion’s share of overall operating profit of the group. Owing to this, the company is considered as the leading player in the UK and Ireland, in the generation of electricity from renewable sources, promoting sustainability and a low-carbon world. Furthermore, the company recognized a 4200 MW overall renewable capacity and a 8GW combined onshore/offshore wind development pipeline, as of May 2019. It is expected that by 2026, the Regulated Asset Value (RAV) for the connections owned by SSE in the pipeline of transmission, would increase to around £5bn. This substantial surge in value would in parallel witness, growth of distribution networks, fuelled by the electrification of transport and heat.
