Environmental

1. Development of sustainable IT solutions for reduction of CO2 emissions: With the advent of advanced technological solutions, all the companies are trying to leverage the potential of the technologies to come up with sustainable IT solutions for fighting the harmful emissions. Similarly, all the business units of Tieto are putting forward their best efforts for developing sustainable IT solutions. On a case-by-case basis, relevant business units are co-operating with sustainability experts in multiple projects to identify and quantify the positive impacts from IT solutions. In 2019, the company was involved in the study of socioeconomic impacts of new technologies such as AI and machine learning for preventive healthcare for diabetes in Sweden. Moreover, Tieto’s CEO chaired the working group Data and platform economy for Finland’s Artificial Intelligence Programme and the company also contributed towards the development of guiding principles for Swedish AI industry codes, i.e., the standards to be followed by the concerned industry while designing, implementing and managing AI-related systems and services.

Minimizing environmental impacts by addressing the energy optimization issues in data centres: The expansion of the digital landscape has led to the increased usage of data centres, which further led to the question of addressing, energy optimization issues in an efficient and sustainable manner. TietoEVRY has adopted a sustainability 2020 plan including three sustainability objectives, one of which involves the minimization of environmental impacts. The company offices are green certified, and the workplaces are designed in such a way, so as to optimize the usage of each square metre. Moreover, with increase in data usage, Tieto strives to optimize the energy consumption across the entire data centre network. The Nordic data centres of the company run on renewable energy sources and tries to benefit the nearby neighbourhoods by recycling the excess heat. Also, instead of frequent travelling, the company encourages employees to have virtual meetings over physical ones.
