Based in Seattle, Washington, Trupanion is a pet insurance service that provides and manages cat and dog insurance in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Puerto Rico. As Vetinsurance, Trupanion was first established in Canada in 1999 by the company's current CEO Darryl Rawlings. By doing its underwriting, Trupanion became the first pet insurance provider in North America. It offers rehabilitation and remedial care packages for animals, including physiotherapy, behavioural therapy, chiropractic care, hydrotherapy, rehabilitative therapy, naturopathy, and homoeopathy. Trupanion also provides fundamental coverage services, such as prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, diagnostic exams, procedures, and hospital stays. The business operates under the brand name Trupanion. It provides medical insurance policies for cats and dogs through a monthly subscription service that is offered directly to consumers. On June 6, 2022, Trupanion announced that it has partnered with ezyVet, a cloud-based practice management system used by veterinary hospitals all around the world, to make its direct payment option accessible to thousands of new hospitals.

Strength
1. Strategic partnership with key companies helps in reaching to a large client base: Trupanion has exclusive relationships with IDEXX and Covetrus who are the owners of over 75% of the practice information management system (PIMS) used in North America. PIMS are important for the company as it provides the company with the access to the new pet owners who make their first visit with their pet to the hospital each month. Approximately one million people do so allow all of them to become potential leads for Trupanion. The company has implemented it to its 5-year strategy and is trying to operationalize the leads reach these million pet owners each month. The company also has exclusive relationship with America’s largest insurance brand State Farm which has access to over 18 million homes and likely more than 9 million pet owners giving the company a huge opportunity to grow. The company started to make progress on these leads by launching Trupanion across all the State Farm website and will be developing a robust agent engagement program to fully leverage the value of the huge brand. Trupanion is scaling its support and working cross functionally with experts to provide necessary resources in terms of infrastructure to excite State Farm agents and grow the business to meet its potential.
