1. Evolving data and IT infrastructure landscape: In the next few years more than 10% data generated would be deemed useful as compared to just 1% in the past few decades and companies are using more and more of this data in their decision-making processes. Today companies are also in the process of enhancing technologies to facilitate data exchanges instead of data just being stored within individual applications. Today organisation have failed to monetize their IoT devices due to very little data exchanges, however, by 2030 the data from IoT devices is expected to be $3.6 Trillion. Hence, this provides an opportunity for Western Digital to monetize on this factor. Their Client Devices such as flash-based embedded storage products for IoTs devices can see an abrupt growth. By 2025, it is expected that 75% of enterprise data will be produced and processed outside of data centres. This again provides an opportunity for Western Digital to market its Data Centre Devices and Solutions that would provide dynamic architectures to meet the evolving needs.

2. Growth in digitalisation around the world: Western Digital shipped 383 Exabytes of storage space in 2019, and this trend is increasing every year with world moving towards digitalisation. Corporates, Governments are also looking for options such as data centres to store their data, this provides a big demand for storage systems and solutions. Western Digital has a well-established name in data storage industry, and it can use it to capture new markets and client’s orders. Organisations, due to vast amount of data collected through their IOT devices are looking for intelligent storage strategies such as edge computing architecture and automation of data storage. Also, online/offline gaming and cloud storage services also provides a unique opportunity for the data companies to capture the market.

3. Scaling Up E-commerce operations: Western Digital in the past few years has invested significantly in its online store and e-commerce platform and has been successful in leveraging in new customer base. 1. Advent of cloud storage and big data analytics: The way the data is stored today is different as to that of how it was stored in the last decade and would be different in the next. There is a rapid expansion in data storage platforms and devices. Traditionally the data was stored in Hard Drives, but it is now moving more towards storage in cloud and big data centers. Consumers are looking for smaller storage devices and larger capacities that can fit into even smaller portable devices such as smart watches, cell phone, laptops among others. Computer Storage companies needs to continuously develop such products and launch them into the market for use of OEMs and other consumers. Western Digital also brought out 3D-NAND technology to provide a faster and wider storage on a single chip. It is expected that data stored in data centers and cloud would reach 1.3ZB by 2021.
