1. US energy efficiency standard’s ban on lamps with 45LPW+ will increase LED adoption: US federal light bulb efficiency standards banned halogen-based and incandescent light bulbs from January 2020. According to the new standards, the energy efficiency limit is 45 LPW (lumens per watt). The current incandescent bulbs use more than the prescribed limit, automatically banning them as well. Many government facilities, roads and infrastructure, warehouses, and industries continue to use them. The ban will force the mentioned entities to upgrade to energy-efficient alternatives such as LED bulbs. The California federal government has already started the transition to LED bulbs in the state. Many CFL bulbs meet the required efficiency limit of 45 LPW, however when compared to LEDs, their quality, longevity, and reliability are much lower. Hence, the new efficiency standards have triggered a shift from traditional bulbs to LEDs in industry and government facilities across the states.
