Threat

  1. Impact of Covid-19 pandemic on rental business: The unfortunate pandemic has hit multiple business sectors hard; one of it being the travel industry. Travel industry is believed to have faced serious decline in revenue due to lockdowns in the major parts of the world. The industry has suffered locally, nationally and also internationally. The service providers were compelled to take actions like layoffs and selling of assets to cut down costs or recover fixed expenses. Avis was also hit hard on its revenue and bookings, as data released by the company says that the company had to cut down on USD 400 million on expenses. This also implied that the company would be cutting down on labour and maintenance expenses. Avis aggressively reduced its fleet, terminated employment of personals, reduced operation costs and halted capital expenses. After the restrictions have been relaxed, the travel sector has observed a spike in the number of travelers. But, still the company has not been able to revive its profit levels as before because of change in the number of travelers. This makes the current rental industry highly uncertain with unknown results.
