Detailed PESTLE Analysis of Kyocera

The detailed PESTLE analysis for Kyocera Corporation is presented below:

POLITICAL

  1. Navigating industry trends amidst global uncertainties: The global political environment plays a pivotal role in shaping trends within various industries. One such significant trend in recent years has been the wars like the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Isreal – Hamas, which has introduced geopolitical tensions with far-reaching implications. These tensions have sent shockwaves throughout the global economy, affecting industries across the board, including the electronic components and technological sector in which Kyocera operates. The electronic components industry is highly dependent on stable international relations and open global markets. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has disrupted the geopolitical landscape, and these disruptions can significantly impact the industry. Geopolitical conflicts often lead to disruptions in the supply chain, trade restrictions, and the imposition of sanctions. All of these elements can have a cascading effect on the company’s operations. Supply chain disruptions can disrupt the flow of raw materials and components that are crucial for manufacturing processes. This can lead to delays in production and increased costs. Trade restrictions imposed as a result of geopolitical tensions can hamper the company’s ability to sell its products in certain markets or restrict its access to critical resources. Furthermore, the imposition of sanctions can affect Kyocera's ability to conduct business with certain entities, hindering its global operations. In addition to these immediate operational challenges, the uncertainties created by geopolitical conflicts can also impact the demand for the company’s products. When global markets are uncertain due to political tensions, businesses may hold off on investments, and consumers may reduce their spending. This can result in a decline in demand for electronic components and products, affecting Kyocera's sales and profitability.

ENVIRONMENTAL

  1. Commitment towards climate action and sustainability: In the current business landscape, a prevailing trend is the heightened global awareness and commitment to address climate change. Companies across various industries are recognizing climate change as a top priority issue and are embracing sustainability as a fundamental principle of their operations. There is a growing movement within the industry to set ambitious environmental goals aligned with international targets, such as those associated with the 1.5°C-level scenario. This trend is characterized by a proactive approach to decarbonization, with a particular emphasis on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting renewable energy. Kyocera's response to the industry trend is notable. The company has recognized the fight against climate change as a priority issue, setting long-term environmental strategies that align with the ambitious 1.5°C-level target. This strategic alignment reflects its commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability. The company’s shift from the 2°C-level target to the more aggressive 1.5°C-level target underscores its dedication to mitigating climate change. This transition has led to the implementation of comprehensive measures aimed at promoting renewable energy and preventing global warming. By taking these steps, it is actively participating in the broader industry trend of proactively addressing climate change through decarbonization initiatives. In FY2020, the Kyocera Group set specific targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aiming to limit the rise in global temperature to less than 2°C. The company's receipt of SBT certification further solidifies its commitment to these ambitious goals. However, its proactive stance doesn't stop there. In response to social trends favoring decarbonization, the company revised its emission reduction targets to support the even more rigorous 1.5°C-level scenario, once again achieving SBT certification in 2022. Moreover, Kyocera has set a clear goal of achieving carbon neutrality by FY2051, aligning its environmental objectives with the most progressive international targets.
