Detailed PESTLE Analysis of Nutrien

The detailed PESTLE analysis for Nutrien Ltd. is presented below:

POLITICAL

  1. Strong impact of Russia-Ukraine deal on the external trade activities: The United States of America, the European Union as well as other western and developed countries have imposed economic sanctions against Russia. This is a move that has the potential to severely hinder its exports of, among other things, potash and nitrogen. Belarus, Russia's ally, is already previously subject to western sanctions where their potash exports have been restricted. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has also raised concerns about other essential commodities such as wheat, corn and vegetable oil and their supply problems in the Black Sea region. This has led to driving up of their world prices. As a response, Nutrien has said that it is preparing to ramp up its production to fill the supply gap. Nutrien has declared that it will be increasing its potash production capacity to 15 million tonnes in 2022, an unprecedented number in the company's history. Since 2020, Nutrien has increased its production by an admirable 20 per cent. While this is a concerning issue for the world and for Nutrien as it may face inflationary pressures, the increase in overall production may ease its concerns.
