About Ørsted A/S :
Ørsted A/S is a Danish global power firm with its headquarters in Fredericia, Denmark. The company was founded by the state-owned Dansk Naturgas A/S of Denmark. Dansk Olie og Naturgas A/S (DONG), short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas, was established in 1972 to handle the gas and oil resources in the Danish section of the North Sea. In 2017, the company announced the sale of its oil and gas operations, the move to renewable energy, and the change of its name to Ørsted. It conducts business through the following divisions: Distribution & Customer Solutions, Other Activities, Wind Power, Bioenergy & Thermal Power. In Denmark, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, the USA, and Taiwan, the Wind Power division develops, builds, owns, and operates offshore wind farms. In the segment for "Bioenergy & Thermal Power," heat and power are produced by combined heat and power plants in Denmark, a gas-fired power plant in the Netherlands, and a Renescience facility in the United Kingdom. The Distribution & Customer Solutions segment includes power distribution, gas sales in wholesale and retail markets in Germany, the UK, Sweden, Denmark, and Denmark, as well as portfolio optimization and hedging for the company's whole energy supply. Ørsted in August 2022 announced that 100% renewable electricity aim will be extended to all suppliers by 2025, making it the first energy business in the world to achieve so.
Ørsted A/S's USP is that it is the largest offshore wind power developer in the world with the greatest number of offshore wind farms constructed, and being named the most sustainable energy company. The mission statement of the company reads, "We're committed to renewable energy, enabling people, businesses and communities to lever its potential without having to worry about causing a negative environmental impact or limiting the opportunities of future generations".

1. Strong portfolio of power purchase agreements with large corporates in many countries: During 2021, in offshore wind energy Orsted A/S was able to expand its CPPA offshore wind portfolio with five agreements, further reducing the company’s risk exposure to merchant prices and bringing the total signed CPPA volume within offshore up to 1,787 MW. The company has benefitted from an increasing number of companies taking the conscious choice to embark on a transformation journey by turning to renewable power. A first company to join CPPA in 2021 was Danfoss on the 209 MW Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm, which is the company’s first offtake contract on an offshore wind farm coming out of subsidy and shows the potential of late-life assets to provide stable revenue. Another company to enter the agreement is REWE group which is a 10-year CPPA for 100 MW of green power. In the onshore wind energy segment, the company announced newly signed CPPAs with nine companies globally. Majority of the newly signed CPPA’s were from US. Apart from the new contracts the company has many big names in its client portfolio which include Amazon, Pepsi, Microsoft, Merck among the others.

1. EU has issued sanctions against the import of Russian energy due to Ukraine-Russia war: The invasion of Russia on Ukraine disrupted the world peace. As a result, major economies of the world like US, Europe etc. started imposing sanctions on Russia. Due to these sanctions, these countries decided to stop importing oil and gas from Russia. Russia is a major producer and exporter of oil and gas. Europe is heavily dependent upon Russia for its energy needs. Asian countries like Japan also decided to stop buying oil from Russia as a protest against the war. After the countries decided to stop buying oil and gas from Russia, the prices of the oil shot up. Orsted imported coal and biomass from Russia to run its operations. After the sanctions the company has stopped all the imports to abide by the sanctions. The company is also not entering into new contracts with Russian companies. The company may look for alternate sources of biomass and coal to fulfill the gap from Russian supply. Meanwhile, the cut off may affect the production of biofuels.
