Opportunity
1. Further investments in diversification and strategic alliances: Even since inception, DP World has been growing exponentially by diversifying and entering into strategic alliances. Owing to this, the company has over 150 operations in more than 50 countries. In pursuit to achieve its goal of having multiple supply chain points across the globe, to create value as well as establish itself as the trade partner of choice, DP World has continued to integrate its acquisitions. In line with this, very recently, amongst the multiple number of M&As, expansions and joint ventures that DP World has entered into, the company acquired P&O Ferries and P&O Ferrymasters at $421 million and also combined P&O Maritime Services with Topaz Energy and Marine. In addition to this, a joint venture of DP World and Zhejiang China Commodity City Group Company (CCC) is expected by 2021 for the Traders Market project.
2. Asset expansion along South America’s west coast: Right from start, DP World has been involved in making intensive investments to expand its range of assets by aggressive diversification. In alignment with this strategy, the company is focusing on expanding its assets along the west coast of South America by replicating Dubai’s Jebel Ali port and free zone. As a part of this USD 1.2 billion project, DP World intends to establish one of its major trade and logistics hub which connects ports, free zones and the logistics services of the company in Posorja, Ecuador. As of now, the firm has already completed the first phase of operations of the deep-water, greenfield container port project of USD 538 million. This new Port and Special Economic Zone will bring out the global competitiveness of Ecuador as a dynamic business hub.
