About AT & T

AT&T Inc. is an American multinational telecommunications holding company headquartered at Whitacre Tower in Downtown Dallas, Texas. In 2023, AT&T was ranked 13th on the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations. AT&T's history began as the American District Telegraph Company, formed in St. Louis in 1878. Through a series of mergers and expansions into Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, it became the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1920, a subsidiary of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company. By 1899, AT&T had become the parent company after acquiring American Bell Telephone Company's assets. The company was rebranded as AT&T Corp. in 1994. One of these, Southwestern Bell Corporation (SBC), changed its name to SBC Communications Inc. in 1995. In 2005, SBC acquired its former parent AT&T Corp., adopting its branding, history, and stock trading symbol, and renamed itself AT&T Inc. This merged entity later acquired BellSouth Corporation in 2006, making AT&T Inc. a dominant player in the telecommunications industry. Today, AT&T Inc. encompasses much of the former Bell System, including four of the seven "Baby Bells" and the original AT&T Corp., along with its long-distance division. The company employs around 149,900 people as of 2024, maintaining a significant presence in the global telecommunications landscape.

AT&T's USP lies in being the world's third-largest telecommunications company by revenue and the second-largest wireless carrier in the United States as of 2024. Its mission is the commitment to innovation and maintaining its leadership in the telecommunications industry.
