Detailed SWOT Analysis of Maxis Communication
Strength
1. Among the top three telecom operators in Malaysia in terms of market share: The Maxis brand has always been built on the consumer market since its inception more than 25 years ago. Additionally, they will continue to prioritise providing successful consumer mobile solutions even as they transition to becoming a provider of converged solutions and a digital first company. Maxis is one of Malaysia’s oldest and largest telecommunications companies. Maxis reclaimed the market leadership in total subscribers with a 25 percent share this year, followed by Digi with a 24 percent share and Celcom with a 20 percent share. Maxis has a market capitalisation of 39.51 billion in 2020, the largest amongst the sector.
2. Strong partnerships with many brands to improve services: Maxis has partnered with many big companies from the past decade to strengthen its strategic growth. Astro and Maxis agreed in 2012 to form a strategic partnership to provide integrated communications and entertainment packages to Malaysian consumers. Astro and Maxis collaborated to develop and co-market consumer packages that combined Astro B.yond IPTV and Astro On-The-Go services with Maxis' Fibre Internet, Mobile Internet, Wireless Internet, and ADSL services. In 2014, GETIT Transnational (P) Ltd. formed a partnership with Maxis Berhad. GETIT has developed a model in which it collaborates with international telcos to enable a variety of services on their networks, including Local Search, Classifieds, Deals/Discounts, and, eventually, e-Commerce. Recently, Maxis formed an alliance with Microsoft because Microsoft is a global leader in a variety of technologies such as cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and digital workplace. Through the partnership, the business is able to expand on Microsoft's solutions and increase their impact for both its own business needs and those of its customers. Maxis is the first company in Malaysia to offer a phone system integration with Microsoft Teams, enabling users to place and receive calls using their fixed-line number from any device directly within Microsoft Teams. And in April 2020, Maxis completed the acquisition of Infrastructure Consulting & Managed Services (ICMS), a market-leading provider of cloud solutions, positioning it to compete with top-tier system integrators and consulting companies as a best-in-class connectivity provider. And the most recent one is that Malaysia Airports and Maxis have partnered strategically in September 2021 to co-create a roadmap for digital transformation of Smart Airport operations.
